Method 1: Enable / Disable Automatic Login Using netplwiz

Press the Windows key + R to open the Run box. Type netplwiz and press Enter.

The User Accounts dialog box will appear. From there you can easily turn on / off Windows automatic login.

Turn Off Automatic Login:

If you want to turn off automatic login, check the “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer” option and click Apply, you’re done. Restart your computer and the system will prompt you to enter password at the login screen.

Turn On Automatic Login:

Highlight your user account (a local account or a Microsoft account). Uncheck the “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer” checkbox. Click Apply.

Then enter your password and confirm it. Click OK.

Restart your PC and when Windows loads it will automatically log you in.

Method 2: Enable / Disable Automatic Login Using Autologon

Autologon is a small, portable utility developed by SysInternals that makes the job of setting up Windows automatic logon even more simple. After you’ve downloaded it, unzip it and run the executable file.

The first time you run it, you have to accept the license terms. By default, Autologon automatically fills out domain and the username of the currently logged in account, with an option to change them if required. If you want to automatically log into a Microsoft account, you need to type the name of the associated local account.

Turn Off Automatic Login:
If you want to turn off automatic login for a specific account, just type your account name and click Disable, and you’re done!

Turn On Automatic Login:
If you want to turn on automatic logon, type your account name and password. Click Enable. Finally restart your computer and Windows 10 will boot straight into your desired user account without asking for a password.

Conclusion

The Autologon utility works the same way as netplwiz. If you’ve turned on automatic login in Windows 10 with netplwiz, you can then revert your system back to the login screen using Autologon.
